Jake Odorizzi, RHP

The last “big name” starting pitcher domino that has to fall this offseason, Jake Odorrizi presents the Phillies with an opportunity to immediately upgrade their starting staff. While bringing in guys like Chase Anderson and Matt Moore has some fans feeling optimistic, the back-end of Philly’s rotation is still looking pretty shaky.

Even Zach Eflin, who many have locked into the team’s #3 job, is far from a certain thing at this point in his career.

While Odorizzi’s 2020 was dampened due to injury, his 2019 season was very impressive. He finished the year with a career-high 15 wins for the Minnesota Twins, and was selected to his first ever All-Star Game possessing a 3.51 ERA. It was a great year for the right-hander, one that had everyone feeling very optimistic about Odorizzi moving forward prior to the injuries.

The Philadelphia Phillies were linked to the likes of Odorizzi, Taijuan Walker, and James Paxton not too long ago, which means Dombrowski is at least still poking around when it comes to improving his starting rotation. With both Paxton and Walker now off the market, bringing in Odorizzi on a one-year deal is pretty much the last notable starting pitcher addition that Dave could make at this point in the offseason.
