Once it was announced that Carson Wentz was being traded to the Indianapolis Colts, fans of the Philadelphia Eagles were quick to crown Jalen Hurts as the team’s next QB1. After all, he’s the only quarterback remaining on the active roster.

Not so fast.

According to a handful of different reports, Howie Roseman and the Eagles are planning to bring in some level of external competition at the quarterback position this offseason. Whether that’s to simply push Hurts during training camp, or to overtake the team’s starting quarterback duties, only time will tell.

With that all said, there are five key names that stick out when looking at who the Eagles could be targeting this spring:

Philadelphia Eagles are expected to bring in QB competition.

Jacoby Brissett

The most obvious free agent QB being linked to the Philadelphia Eagles, Jacoby Brissett of course has a connection to head coach Nick Sirianni due to their time together with the Colts.

Depending on if he gets any offers to be a starter this offseason, reuniting with his old offensive coordinator would be a pretty decent outcome for Brissett this offseason. The relationship is already there, he’d know the playbook, and he could ultimately get a real look at the QB1 position.

Seeing as Sirianni has had success with Brissett in the past, I don’t think it’d take much for him to jump from Hurts to his former starting QB if Jalen struggles early on in 2021.

As long as Roseman clears up enough cap space and no other teams come in aggressively for Brissett, him landing in Philly would be the best case scenario for the Eagles this offseason.
