Pitchers and catchers have finally reported down in Clearwater, Florida – which means Philadelphia Phillies baseball is officially back. The team announced who all of their non-roster invitees would be earlier on Tuesday, setting the stage for what projects to a busy spring full of camp competitions.

Spring Training gives managers and front office members an opportunity to evaluate a wide range of talent, and the Phillies took no shortcuts when it came to stacking up for this year’s camp session.

The Philadelphia Phillies have some talent worth watching for during camp.

They brought in all sorts of different players to compete during Spring Training, and a good number of them should have an honest chance at cracking the team’s official roster come Opening Day.

Brandon Kintzler, RHP

An All-Star back in 2017, I’d almost go as far as to say that Brandon Kintzler is a lock to make the Phillies Opening Day roster.

The right-handed reliever posted a 2.68 ERA for the Cubs in 2019, and then a 2.28 ERA for the Marlins operating as their primary closer in 2020. His 12 saves that he recorded with Miami last season were more than the entire Philadelphia bullpen combined.

Kintzler is set to earn $3 million should he crack the main roster, which to me, signals that he was always promised a spot. Once a roster spot clears (Seranthony Dominguez to the IL?), Kintzler will likely be elevated as soon as possible.

His age might have scared off a few potential suitors this offseason (37), but his resume is undeniably better than a majority of the Phillies current relievers. He should definitely find himself a spot in Joe Girardi’s bullpen.
