Safety

With all the talk about the Philadelphia Eagles cornerback situation, their safety room has somewhat been left behind in the dust. While CB is definitely the more pressing issue when it comes to the secondary, safety is still a definitive need this offseason.

Jalen Mills had an above average season as a first-time safety in 2020, but he’s an unrestricted free agent. Mills prioritized returning to Philadelphia last offseason as opposed to hunting cash elsewhere, but the Eagles cap situation is truly in a dire spot – they simply might not be able to afford the former LSU defensive back.

Throw in the fact that Jim Schwartz – Mills’ biggest supporter – is no longer with the Eagles, and it’s not hard to envision the two sides parting ways this spring.

Rodney McLeod turns 31 in June and is coming off a major knee injury. Neither Grayland Arnold nor K’Von Wallace showed a ton during their rookie campaigns, and Marcus Epps is…well…Marcus Epps.

With so many question marks across the board at safety, you could make a legitimate case for it being one of the team’s top needs heading into the offseason. If an above average safety prospect is available in the second/third round of the draft, I definitely wouldn’t rule it out.
