Similar to the Wentz-Indy rumors, Ertz heading off to Indianapolis makes sense due to the ties he currently has to the team’s coaching staff. Him and Frank Reich had a solid connection during their time together with the Philadelphia Eagles, and both sides would likely welcome a reunion.

Add in the fact that the Colts don’t currently have an above average starting TE locked in for the 2021 season, and the rumored interest arguably makes more sense than Seattle’s.

The main ripple to the Ertz-Colts rumors is the fact that a massive trade package surrounding both Ertz and Wentz could ultimately be worked out. Howie Roseman and the Philadelphia Eagles want to get the biggest possible trade package in return for Carson, and including Ertz in the deal would likely make it all look a tad “nicer” on paper.

The Colts have reportedly been unwilling to part ways with their 2021 first rounder thus far, but a package oriented around their 2022 first round pick could likely score both Wentz and Ertz back in return.

Reuniting the trio of Wentz, Ertz, and Frank Reich could be the move to push the Colts over the hump into Super Bowl contention moving forward.

Ultimately speaking, the Philadelphia Eagles will hunt the best possible return for their disgruntled tight end. However, Ertz is coming off a below average 2020 season and Philly’s hands are pretty tied in terms of leverage. If Ertz finds himself leaning towards either Seattle or Indianapolis this offseason, finding a way to work out that trade agreement would benefit all parties involved.
