Super Bowl LV is finally upon us, and unsurprisingly, it showcases Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes dueling it out. The greatest quarterback to ever do it taking on the 2019 MVP. However, far more surprising is the amount of storylines that are tied into the Philadelphia Eagles during this year’s big game.

Despite their abysmal 4-11-1 finish to the season, the Eagles organization still has a handful of connections to this year’s Super Bowl.

The Philadelphia Eagles are oddly connected to this year’s Super Bowl.

The most obvious tie between the Eagles and this year’s Super Bowl is of course that of Andy Reid. Philadelphia’s beloved coach from 1999-2012, Reid has found an abundance of success since parting ways with the Eagles franchise.

He secured his first career Super Bowl win last year behind his offensive brilliance, and he’s appeared in three straight AFC Championship games since naming Patrick Mahomes the starter.

Not only has Reid positioned himself to waltz into the Hall of Fame when he finally decides to retire, but he’s completely revolutionized the way teams construct their offenses. Pretty much every head coach in the league looks to Reid for inspiration when it comes to play-calling and scheme design.

While firing Andy ultimately paved the way for Doug Pederson to come in and guide the Eagles to their first Super Bowl win, it’s hard not to feel like losing Andy was a mistake that never should have been made.

Reid is thriving in Kansas City, while the Eagles are stuck in constant controversy and turmoil under Howie Roseman’s watch.
