Greg Ward

Greg Ward is a super awesome “feel good” story, but if we’re all being completely honest, he’s a pretty below average option at wide receiver.

Despite posting a career-high 53 catches and 419 yards in 2020, Ward’s yards per catch number sat at a measly 7.9. That ranks as the 132nd best in the NFL.

Not great!

Nick Sirianni had a great deal of success helping develop some of the Colts receiving options over the last couple seasons, but it’s hard to imagine a scenario where he deems Ward a worthy candidate to be investing time into. In a league that’s increasingly prioritizing speed and explosiveness – especially out of the slot receiver position – Ward just doesn’t fit the bill.

A guy like Quez Watkins makes far more sense in the slot if the Philadelphia Eagles intend to trot out a similar WR group to what they employed in 2020. Even moving Jalen Reagor inside makes more sense should the Eagles draft a true outside threat like Ja’Marr Chase or DeVonta Smith come draft night.

I love Greg Ward the person and his story is truly inspirational, but he really shouldn’t be in Sirianni’s long-term plans when it comes to constructing a more modern-looking passing game.
