Since the Nick Sirianni hiring was announced, all the talk has been about which players currently on the Philadelphia Eagles roster would benefit the most from a new set of eyes at the head coach position.

Names likes Carson Wentz, Miles Sanders, Jalen Reagor, and even a few defensive players (Avonte Maddox) are all guys in desperate need of a new coaching philosophy to be utilized under.

With that said, it’s impossible for everyone to benefit from the coaching switch. There are definitely some players who were Doug Pederson/Jim Schwartz favorites, who now may not be afforded the same level of leeway.

A good chunk of those names (Jalen Mills, Alshon Jeffery, Nate Gerry, etc.) are likely to be off the roster in 2021, but there are still players under contract for the 2021 season who might see their status hurt under the newfound Sirianni/Gannon regime.

Not everyone on the Philadelphia Eagles roster benefits from a new HC.

Derek Barnett

Currently under contract for the upcoming season due to the Philadelphia Eagles accepting his fifth-year option, gone are the days of Jim Schwartz borderline coddling the former first round pick.

Derek Barnett is on the hook for $10 million in 2021, and is set for a contract extension after that. Considering just how tight money is for the Eagles moving forward, he either needs to start producing big-time sack numbers, or he needs to hit the road.

Barnett has just 19.5 sacks in 48 career games (30 starts), and has routinely missed time due to a variety of different injuries. While Schwartz repeatedly defended the 24 year old pass-rusher, newly hired DC Jonathan Gannon might not do the same.

It’s also important to note that Barnett’s name was floated around some trade rumors this past season, with some league-wide interest definitely being present.
