Philadelphia Eagles: Ja’Marr Chase or DeVonta Smith, who’s better?
By David Esser
Set to open the first round with the sixth overall pick, the Philadelphia Eagles are going to have themselves a decision to make.
While they could end up targeting an elite CB prospect like Patrick Surtain II to pair alongside Darius Slay, or a dynamic athlete like Micah Parsons to address their vacant LB1 position, the general consensus amongst fans and media pundits alike is that the Eagles need to get themselves a true WR1. Throw in the fact that the team hired an offensive-minded coach who’s known for his ability to work with younger wide receivers, and all the signs point towards the team grabbing a true, dominant pass-catcher at pick #6.
If that’s the conclusion that Howie Roseman and the rest of the Eagles front office comes to, there’s really only two names worth considering in that spot: Ja’Marr Chase and DeVonta Smith.

Playing alongside the likes of Joe Burrow and Justin Jefferson, many viewed Chase as the most complete receiving prospect in all of college football. He recorded 84 catches for 1,780 yards and 20 TDs as a true sophomore, operating primarily as LSU’s go-to target on the outside.
Smith, after living in the shadows of the likes of Jerry Jeudy and Henry Ruggs, really burst onto the scene this past season. He recorded 117 catches for 1,856 yards and 23 touchdowns, ultimately earning himself the much coveted Heisman Trophy.
Both prospects look absolutely surreal – far better than anyone the Eagles currently have. However, one prospect does in fact has to be better than the other. On the following slides we’re going to be taking a look at the pros and cons to each WR, ultimately coming to a conclusion in terms of who the Eagles should prioritize with their first round pick.
