Whether you like it or not, there’s zero guarantee that either Carson Wentz or Jalen Hurts will be the Philadelphia Eagles starting quarterback in 2021. Neither looked particularly promising in 2020, and a soon-to-be hired new head coach may prefer just heading in an entirely different direction altogether. Who the team drafts will ultimately be up to GM Howie Roseman, but in this latest mock draft, we explore what an Eagles draft would look like should the team completely start over with a new franchise QB:

A QB-centered mock draft for the Philadelphia Eagles.

54. 6. player. BYU. Zach Wilson. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. QB

The way the top five plays out in this year’s NFL draft will determine a lot in terms of the direction the Philadelphia Eagles go as a franchise. In this specific mock, both DeVonta Smith and Ja’Marr Chase were off the board by the time the Eagles were on the clock, allowing them the opportunity to draft a new franchise QB.

More from Section 215

Zach Wilson, from BYU, has seen his stock rise quite a bit this past year. After a shaky first two seasons of collegiate ball, Wilson exploded onto the scene with a spectacular 2020 campaign. He finished the year with 33 passing TDs, 3,692 passing yards, a 73.5% completion rate, and just 3 interceptions. Throw in the fact that he rushed for an additional 10 TDs, and it’s clear to see why most mocks have him going in the top-five.

Wilson’s breakout season have most analysts projecting him as a starting QB in the NFL, and he has all the required traits to back it up. 6-3, athletic, big arm, reads defenses well, etc.

There’s an argument to be made on whether he’s better than the likes of Wentz or Hurts, but ultimately speaking, he’d give the Eagles a fresh start with a top quarterback prospect on a rookie contract for four years (plus a fifth-year option).
