Philadelphia Phillies: 5 potential J.T. Realmuto suitors still out there
By David Esser
Philadelphia Phillies still have some competition with J.T Realmuto.
With the New York Mets officially out of the catcher market (they signed James McCann!), things are looking somewhat favorably in terms of the Philadelphia Phillies chances of re-signing J.T. Realmuto. The Mets were viewed as their biggest competitor, and Dave Dombrowski has repeatedly spoken highly of J.T. in his press conferences.
With that said, the Phils aren’t in the clear quite yet. There are still at least a handful of teams that could come swooping in for the 2x All-Star catcher.

Team number one on this potential suitor list has to be that of the Washington Nationals. They made waves last week when they traded for first baseman Josh Bell, and they might not be done adding.
The Nationals were reported to have made contact with J.T. and his camp earlier last month, with the word being that the team’s front office was definitely interested in adding him to the roster. The main hold-up? Ownership, as the Lerners have long been owners who don’t like handing out the big bucks (let Harper and Rendon walk in free agency).
Following the Bell trade, it’s clear that the Nationals want to jump back into the postseason conversation. They have an elite starting rotation, an MVP candidate in Juan Soto, and now two complimentary pieces in Trea Turner and Josh Bell. It honestly feels unlikely that Nats’ ownership is going to sign off on a $100+ million dollar deal for Realmuto, but you just never know.
