Three Philadelphia Flyers breakout candidates for 2021.

Well, we made it! 2021 is officially here, and I want to wish a Happy New Year to you all and I hope this year is much better then 2020. With that in mind, the Philadelphia Flyers actually had a pretty darn good 2020, and they are set to play an actual regular season hockey game in less then two weeks from today.

There are so many things to be excited about as we get ourselves revved up for another fantastic season of Philadelphia Flyers hockey, including the potential breakouts of a few of our beloved members of the Orange and Black. Here are three players that could take their game to another level in 2021.

3. Joel Farabee

More from Section 215

When the Flyers dealt Brayden Schenn for a couple first-round picks (and Jori Lethera… gross), there was a lot of uncertainty if this was the right move. Schenn was fresh off back to back 25 goal seasons, and seemed poised to be a big part of the Flyers future as he had just signed an extension the off season before.

Those first-round picks turned into Morgan Frost and Joel Farabee, both of whom have the chance to make an impact in 2021. Farabee of course, played a significant role this past season, appearing in 52 regular season games producing 8 goals and 13 assists (21 points.) He also gained a plethora of postseason experience, skating in 12 playoff games scoring 3 goals and chipping in another 2 assists (5 points.)

Playing last season at just 19 years old, Joel Farabee did a nice job of establishing himself as an NHL player. Even showing his willingness to defend his teammates and throw his body around, which of course immediately endeared him to his team and the fan base.

The former first-round pick plays a really strong two way game, and looks set to be a major part of the future for the Philadelphia Flyers. As he gears up for season number two for the Orange and Black, expect him to take another step forward this year. He now has had the chance to get his feet wet in year one, and the added playoff experience is a huge bonus as well.

Aside from playing the majority of last season while proving he could hold his own in the NHL, the thing that makes this season so exciting for Philly Joel is how he got better and better as his rookie season went on. Over the final 15 games of the regular season last year, Farabee produced 5 goals and 4 assists (9 points); more than half of his goals and nearly half of his total production came in that final stretch.

This sets Joel Farabee up to take another step forward this season; along with an offseason to get bigger and stronger, as we do need to remember this kid will still only be 20 years old when the puck drops on January 13th in South Philly.

Yeah, it is safe to say the future is bright for number 49; and this season could be that first big leap.
