Philadelphia Eagles 7-round mock draft: Lockdown CB in the first-round
By David Esser
Landing that lockdown CB2 for the Philadelphia Eagles.
Following the Philadelphia Eagles loss to the division rival Dallas Cowboys – their season is now officially over. At 4-10-1, they have been eliminated from postseason contention in the miserable NFC East, and are now solely looking to play spoiler against Washington in Week 17.
If the team was smart, however, they’d look to lose this weekend to ensure the highest draft pick possible.
As I’m writing this, the Eagles currently possess the sixth pick in the 2021 Draft. If the team ends up holding that #6 spot, here’s what their entire draft process could end up looking like:

For reasons that I don’t need to explain, a majority of the mocks this offseason will have the Philadelphia Eagles taking a WR like Ja’Marr Chase or DeVonta Smith (I actually did a mock last week that had the Eagles landing Chase in the first-round, you should check that out too).
With that said, there’s an argument to be made that the Eagles biggest need is not on the offensive side of the ball. The team just watched Michael Jacquet III, and undrafted free agent, get cooked for 100+ yards in the biggest game of the year. Finally landing a real CB2 would prevent that from ever happening again.
Patrick Surtain II is 6-1, 203lbs and is universally regarded as the best cornerback prospect in the 2021 class. He has good speed, good physicality, fluid hips, and is strong at the catch point. Not only would Surtain II give the Eagles a solid CB2 for the next couple of seasons, but he would also serve as the team’s Darius Slay replacement later down the road.
As much as we all want to see Chase or Smith in midnight green, the potential to land a lockdown corner should not be overlooked.
