Most disappointing Philadelphia Eagles: Zach Ertz

Zach Ertz has had a strange 2020 campaign – damaged by off the field contract issues and on-field injuries. However, ultimately speaking, the 3x Pro Bowl tight end has just been flat out bad when active.

Ertz made it fairly public during the offseason that he wanted a pay raise, a contract that would rival the likes of George Kittle and Travis Kelce. Howie Roseman refused, and it set off a messy relationship between Ertz and the Eagles organization heading into 2020.

According to a source close to the situation, Ertz was under the impression that he was being “phased out of the offense” altogether, so that Dallas Goedert could begin growing into the team’s TE1.

Ertz then got hurt in Week 6, further disenfranchising himself with the Eagles offense.

Regardless of everything that’s happened, a guy who was once regarded as a top-three tight end in the sport has regressed to that of a role player. He has just 33 catches for 319 yards this season, and his lone touchdown came in Week 1 against Washington. After such a brutal 2020 season, it’s tough to imagine the Eagles wanting to keep him around moving forward, especially considering the team’s salary cap situation. Pretty tough end to things in Philly for the former Super Bowl hero.
