Grading the Philadelphia Eagles second-year players.

With companies all around the country conducting their end-of-year reviews, I thought now was a perfect time to reflect back on some of the second-year players on the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Eagles have gotten a rep of not committing to younger players in the past, but they actually have a fairly large number of “sophomores” currently on the roster.

An emphasis will be placed on the team’s 2019 draft class (as those in theory should be the team’s most valuable players), but there’s plenty of practice squad call-ups who made their debut in 2019 – who are now playing important roles for the team.

Into the grades!

Andre Dillard: N/A

I wish I could give Andre Dillard an actual grade here, but it’s genuinely just impossible to evaluate him this year.

The former first-round pick tore his biceps during training camp, and promptly underwent season-ending surgery. He won’t officially get a shot at being the Eagles starting left tackle until 2021 – two whole years after he was drafted.

While it’s unfair to give Dillard a bad grade just because he got injured, it’s worth nothing that Jordan Mailata has really excelled at the LT role when called upon. Even with Dillard being a first-round pick, he’ll likely have an uphill battle in terms of winning back that LT position in the offseason.

Seeing how that training camp battle plays out in the offseason will give us a better idea of what type of talent Dillard projects to be longterm, so we’ll revisit this discussion later down the road.
