Josh Sweat is going national.

A fourth-round pick in 2018, Josh Sweat has been viewed as a “hidden gem” for the Philadelphia Eagles for quite some time now. He was extremely productive as a rotational edge in 2018 and 2019, and his performances left fans itching for more.

Now here in 2020, it looks like Sweat has finally ascended into that of a nationally known edge rusher.

Sweat had two sacks against the Saints today, both coming in crucial spots. His strip sack on fourth down was a massive turning point late in the game, and it’s hard to imagine the Eagles would’ve won without it.

Sweat is now up to six sacks and three forced fumbles, while still primarily operating in a rotational type role. He’s routinely impressed all season long, and people around the league are starting to take notice.

With the Philadelphia Eagles set to inherit a pretty messy cap situation in 2021, having Sweat blossom into a legit, starting caliber defensive end would be massive for the team’s roster construction moving forward. Based off what we’ve sen here in 2020, I think it’s only a matter of time before he gets that’s opportunity, and my guess is that he will absolutely thrive with it once awarded.
