One of the biggest draft misses in Philadelphia Eagles history, the nightmare that is DK Metcalf ain’t going away anytime soon.

Larry Fitzgerald, Julio Jones, Russell Wilson. There’s a handful of notable “Philadelphia Eagles killers” that have plagued the franchise over the last couple of years. These guys always seem to have their best performances against Philadelphia for some odd reason, and seeing their team on the schedule always elicits a groan from Philly fans.

With that in mind, it seems like we’ve found our next great “Eagles killer”, and it’s someone that fans of the team already know all too well.

The 64th overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, DK Metcalf has quickly blossomed into one of the best all around receivers in the NFL. He currently leads the league in receiving yards with 1,039, ranks fifth in reaching touchdowns (9), and has the third highest average yards per reception (17.9). His unique combination of speed, size, and overall strength presents a constant mismatch on the outside, and not even the best of NFL corners have been able to keep him under wraps.

Heading into last night’s game between the Seahawks and the Eagles, Metcalf was a hot talking point. Most people were expecting Darius Slay to be matched up one-on-one with the electric second-year wideout, and the narrative surrounding Howie Roseman’s decision to not draft Metcalf back in 2019 is always a fun one to reflect on.

Roseman took JJ Arcega-Whiteside a handful of picks prior to Metcalf going off the board, and ultimately passed on the Ole Miss receiver three separate times. It’s one of the worst decisions in Philadelphia Eagles history, and one that Metcalf himself clearly hasn’t forgotten.

As I’m sure you all know by now, Metcalf had an absolutely absurd game last night. He finished the evening with 10 catches and 177 receiving yards, decisively winning his battle against Slay. For what it’s worth, Slay didn’t particularly play “bad” in coverage, Metcalf is just an absolute freak.

Following his career night, Metcalf had some more words for the Eagles franchise, this time directed at current defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz.

Lumping all this together, and it’s clear that this is just one of those player-team rivalries that will never go away. Whether it’s due to DK feeling “snubbed” over the Eagles not drafting him, or Jim Schwartz’ comments coming across as disrespectful, it seems like there’s an endless stream of gasoline being dumped on this relationship.

Metcalf has played Philly on three separate occasions already, and he’s currently averaging 124 receiving yards per game. It’s too early to put his name alongside Larry Fitz in terms of being a certified Eagles killer, but he’s very much on his way. Metcalf is set to turn just 23 years old at the end of the month, meaning he’s got plenty of time to solidify himself as one of the best WRs in NFL history.

dark. Next. Philadelphia Eagles: Have we officially reached rock bottom?

Howie Roseman and the Philadelphia Eagles passing on Metcalf during the draft turned out to be an absolute nightmare, and it’s one that won’t be going away anytime soon. Unless the Eagles can magically stumble upon a 6-4, fast as hell corner, my guess is that DK continues to light up the Philly defense for years to come.
