Philadelphia 76ers: Watch Tyrese Maxey denounce the Dallas Cowboys
The Philadelphia 76ers just added another Eagles fan to their roster.
When the Philadelphia 76ers landed Tyrese Maxey with the 21st overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, it felt too good to be true.
Granted, there isn’t exactly a long and fruitful history of players taken in their early 20s transforming themselves into All-Pros, but Maxey doesn’t need to reach that level for his addition to be considered a slam dunk.
Measuring in at 6-foot-3, 198 pounds, Maxey is a two-way combo guard the likes of which the Sixers have been searching for since Markelle Fultz. Though he’s not the most polished offensive player at this point in this career, there’s plenty of positives about his game that should make any Philly fan the world over excited about his addition.

Don’t believe me? Watch Maxey break down his film with ESPN draft analyst Mike Schmitz here a few days before the draft.
But that’s not the only interesting Maxey related video produced by ESPN from the week of his draft. No, Maxey also stopped by the network’s best show – don’t @ me – and delivered a promise that should be music to any self-respecting Philly fan’s ears.
Calling in from his training facility out in California, Maxey stopped by the ‘Jalen and Jacoby Show’ and talked about everything from his time at Kentucky to his workout routines.
Outside of continually being called a lottery pick, it was nothing all that interesting or controversial about the 20-year-old’s 10-ish minute appearance except for a small tidbit tucked in at the end when Rose asked about football allegiances.
Maxey, a native of Dallas, Texas, was asked if he would remain a Cowboys fan regardless of where he was drafted, to which he replied, “Wherever I get drafted to, I’m going to adopt that team”.
To paraphrase David Jacoby, that’s a pretty darn good answer.
Now be fair, it’s not like Philadelphia sports athletes have to be fans of the city’s other teams. Mike Scott notably is a fan of the Washington Football Team, and Joel Embiid likes the Green Bay Packers for… some reasons, it’s pretty darn cool to imagine Maxey rocking a midnight green jersey sitting in a Club Box next to Ben Simmons over the next few seasons – especially if the game is against Dallas.
For as much as Philly fans love their local football team, it’s quite possible they hate Dallas’ even more.
Though Tyrese Maxey isn’t technically a member of the Philadelphia 76ers just yet – as the conditions of his contract are still being worked out- it’s clear the Kentucky product is already checking every box fans want from a starting guard both on and off the court. If Maxey continues to embrace the City of Brotherly Love with open arms and truly does denounce the Dallas Cowboys for a spot in Bleeding Green Nation, he’ll surely receive that energy back tenfold.
