Philadelphia 76ers: Is Jerami Grant a serious free agency option?
Could the Philadelphia 76ers land Jerami Grant?
In his first offseason as president of basketball operations of the Philadelphia 76ers, Daryl Morey has already made a significant impact in fixing the roster of the 76ers.
Hours before the 2020 NBA Draft, Morey was able to trade away Al Horford and his atrocious contract to Oklahoma City for Danny Green and Terrance Ferguson. The during the draft, Morey selected Tyrese Maxey, Isaiah Joe and Paul Reed with his three selection.
He also acquired Seth Curry from Dallas for Josh Richardson and the 36th overall pick in the draft.

Morey and the 76ers had themselves an incredible night, as they were able to acquire players that will fit with the big three of Joel Embiid, Ben Simmons and Tobias Harris.
The best part of it all: Morey is just getting started.
NBA free agency is set to begin today at 6 PM, and the movement across the league is going to be incredible. With little cap space currently available, it seems the 76ers won’t be in the market for the high priced free agents through a traditional signing.
However, that should be no reason to stop Morey from making moves. There are plenty of ways for Morey to bring in another great player for this team.
The questions remains: What should Morey do?
All offseason, it feels like Sacramento Kings guard Buddy Hield was linked to the Philadelphia 76ers via different trade scenarios. That dream has all but died, as the Denver Nuggets have gained interest in Hield.
If Morey wants to continue to make the 76ers better, he should contact both teams, but not for Hield. The real target for the 76ers should be Jerami Grant.
After being drafted by the team in 2014 and brief stops in Oklahoma City and Denver, Grant is finally a free agent after declining his player option for 2020. Grant is due for a nice pay day, after averaging 12 points per game and shooting 38 percent from three. At 6-foot-8, he has the ability to play the small or power forward position in today’s game, and is a great 3-and-D complementary piece for a team.
It’s a mystery where Grant will end up, but the 76ers should definitely have interest in bringing him home.
The 76ers don’t have the cap space to sign Grant, but they could find a way to execute a sign-and-trade. Not only should they do a deal with Denver, but they should include Sacramento, as well.
I couldn’t tell you an official outline of a three-team deal, but I do know one is possible.
After trading away Horford and Richardson, the 76ers still have some assets to get a deal done. With a ton of guards currently rostered, the 76ers could depart with players like Zhaire Smith and Furkan Korkmaz, along with Mike Scott as a filler. Once he’s cleared, even Danny Green could be moved again for salary match purposes.
Draft compensation could also be involved, but it is clear Morey is not worried about giving away draft picks at this point.
With a three-team deal, one or two of these players could find their way to Sacramento, as they are thin at shooting guard with Bogdan Bogdanovic possibly leaving. Denver could look to unload Gary Harris to Sacramento to make way for Hield and acquire one of the 76ers’ guards in the process. Draft compensation would also be thrown around with these teams.
There are ways to make a trade between these three teams work, it’s just a matter of wanting to make it work.
The Philadelphia 76ers and Daryl Morey have had an incredible start to the NBA offseason. In no way should they be content with the roster right now and should continue to improve on it. Bringing home Jerami Grant is a move that is very possible with the right pieces. By acquiring Grant, the 76ers would have a great 3-and-D player at the small forward, making the starting lineup and bench even stronger. The idea is there, it’s up to Morey and company to execute.
