5 deadline day trades that the Philadelphia Eagles should’ve done
By David Esser
The Philadelphia Eagles should’ve pulled off these 5 deadline day trades.
Despite being linked in all sorts of rumors leading up to the trade deadline, Howie Roseman and the Philadelphia Eagles opted to sit on their hands prior to Tuesday’s 4PM cutoff. They didn’t acquire any players, and they didn’t ship anyone away.
For what it’s worth, the NFL trade deadline is absolutely brutal. It seems like big trades never happen, and even when they do, it’s for an exuberantly high price. “Selling” teams overvalue the heck out of their players, and “buying” teams aren’t going to shoot away Day 2 draft picks for rental players (most of the time).
The Philadelphia Eagles probably needed to make a move or two to solidify first place in the NFC East this year, but when a third-round pick can’t even land the Packers Will freakin’ Fuller, I can understand not wanting to get involved on the trade market.

With all that in mind, there were still a handful of moves that I thought Roseman would’ve been wise to get in on:
Desmond King, DB
Proposed trade: Fifth-round pick to LAC, Desmond King to PHI
I discussed this trade earlier in the week so I won’t dive too deep into it, but I’m still genuinely struggling to understand how Desmond King‘s value was so low on the open market.
King was in fact dealt prior to the deadline, going from the LA Chargers to the Tennessee Titans in exchange for a sixth-round pick. Even with the Eagles’ impending cap struggles, beating the Titans’ offer and acquiring an All Pro defensive back would’ve been a no-brainer for me.
This could’ve also made someone like Will Parks expendable, allowing the Eagles to re-coup a bit of lost draft capital.
