Philadelphia Eagles: 5 potential Zach Ertz trade destinations
By David Esser
Zach Ertz could push the Bills over the hump.
Initially proposed by Casey Gruarin of The Buffalo Fanatics, a push to acquire Ertz makes a ton of sense on paper from the Bills’ side of things. They are 4-1 and likely believe they are legitimate contenders, and a trade for a true TE1 could be the move that pushes them over the edge.
The Bills were aggressive this past offseason, sending a plethora of draft picks over to the Vikings in order to snatch away Stefon Diggs (a trade I wish the Philadelphia Eagles were in on). The move has paid instant dividends, as Diggs already has 500+ receiving yards and Josh Allen looks like a legitimate MVP candidate when targeting his new WR1.
With that said, the Bills are still likely one piece away from competing with the likes of Kansas City and Baltimore. They got beat fairly bad by Tennessee on Tuesday Night Football, and it was clear that Diggs can’t do it all by himself. The team has gotten just 129 total receiving yards out of their two main tight ends this season (Dawson Knox, Tyler Kroft), meaning an upgrade at that position would be quite significant.
Similar to the effect that he would have on the Cardinals, Ertz would provide Allen with a safety blanket over the middle while drawing double-teams away from Diggs on the outside. The only major drawback lies in Buffalo’s lack of excess draft picks, as they traded away multiple for Diggs over the summer.
There’s no guarantee that an Ertz trade will happen at this upcoming deadline, but an eventual move does feel inevitable. Considering the fact that no progress has been made on an extension, the signs are pointing towards a move taking place during the offseason at the latest. Assuming this reality, the five above mentioned teams rank towards the top in terms if who is most likely to deal for the disgruntled pass-catcher.
