Frank Reich is quite familiar with Ertz and his abilities.

Similar to that of a Joe Douglas, former Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator and current Indianapolis Colts head coach Frank Reich has quite a bit of ties within Philadelphia. He was a huge piece to the team’s offensive success in 2017, and a lot of that success was predicated around getting Ertz the football.

The Colts are in a tricky spot, halfway looking to compete and halfway looking to rebuild. They spent major assets this past offseason trying to jump back into the postseason, trading a first-round pick to San Fran for DeForest Buckner and handing over $20+ million to QB Philip Rivers. They currently sit at 3-2, but there are still some major questions surrounding their offense as Rivers has struggled not turning the ball over.

Not only would Ertz come in and immediately improve the Colts’ offense, but he would also give the team multiple years worth of solid TE play. Just like the Jets and the Cardinals, having a safety blanket to lean on across the middle of the field would be huge for the team’s next franchise QB.

T.Y. Hilton is set to hit free agency this offseason as well, leaving Indy with a hole in their offense in terms of who will get 8-10 targets a game. That’s a a role that Ertz would fill quite nicely all things considered.
