2. LW Matt Martin

2019-2020 Team: New York Islanders

2019-2020 Cap Hit: $2.5 million

After seeing Matt Martin absolutely terrorize the Philadelphia Flyers in the postseason this past year, wouldn’t it be nice to see him in Orange and Black? Of course, when I say terrorize, I do not mean this guy was absolutely lighting up the scoreboard. However, he was hitting what felt like everything that moved. Adding a player like Martin would add that snarl to the bottom six that was clearly missing during this year’s playoff run.

Having never been a big-time point producer, as mentioned, what Martin brings is toughness and a willingness to mix it up when needed. Plus, it’s not like he is completely inept offensively. He could easily fall into 10 goals in a season skating in the bottom six, playing with the right line-mates.

To put into perspective his ability to throw the body, Martin is closing in on 3,000 career hits, and finished fifth in the entire NHL this past season in hits with 242; an impressive mark considering he only playing in 55 games. That is absolutely absurd. Like, really think about that, Martin averaged over four hits per game while only skating about 10 minutes per game. We sure have seen a ton of him in matchups with the Islanders in recent years. Philadelphia fans would absolutely love this guy, as he kind of brings that old-school style of play to the game.

While his previous deal was a bit of an overpay, Matt Martin could be probably be had at a really reasonable price. There is no reason to believe he couldn’t be had for a one-to-two-year-deal worth about $1-1.25 per year. At that price? Sign me up.
