Philadelphia Eagles: 3 Fantasy Football sleepers on offense
Dallas Goedert (TE)
Dallas Goedert isn’t your prototypical Fantasy sleeper but with an ADP (average draft position) of 152, he certainly is being looked over. I get the immediate hesitation with Goedert as he does back up Ertz, and Ertz is looked at as the Eagle’s best receiver. However, Ertz’ success doesn’t necessarily hinder Goedert’s on-field production, as he was the Philadelphia Eagles second leading receiver in receiving yards (607) and receiving touchdowns (5) in 2019.
Goedert’s production is projected to increase once again in his third season as an Eagle. During his jump from rookie to sophomore season he doubled his targets, receptions, and receiving yards. His snap count percentage has also increased from 48% to 66% during that span. In 2019 the Eagles offense used the “12 personnel” formation featuring two TEs on 50% of their snaps which lead the NFL. Opportunity shouldn’t be an issue for Goedert and as Wentz continues to build chemistry with him, those numbers should continue to increase.
Another factor that could weigh in on Goedert’s usage is Ertz’ looming contract situation. While Ertz still has two years on his deal, it is widely known that he wants an extension and to be paid like the top three tight end that he is. A report from Ian Rapoport came out earlier this week saying that the Eagles and Ertz contract talks have come to a standstill. While I think it’s likely Ertz gets extended, you just never know. If the Philadelphia Eagles front office comes to terms with letting Ertz walk they may choose to groom Goedert even more over the 2020 season.
Overall I love Goedert this season as the Eagles have the 4th easiest schedule for tight-end matchups. If I were you, I’d hold out on drafting a tight end till the 9th-12th rounds of the draft and keep an eye on Goedert as he has top-10 tight end potential. No sleeping on Goedert on my part as I’ve drafted him in three out of the four fantasy leagues I’m participating in.
