JJ Arcega-Whiteside ( WR)

I know this one is surprising, but this is a list of sleepers after all…

JJ Arcega-Whiteside was nothing short of disappointing during his rookie season, but the former second-round pick is looking to turn things around this season. Posting just 10 receptions,169 receiving yards and one touchdown in 2019, Arcega-Whiteside has been given up on by Eagles fans. Well not this Eagles fan, Arcega-Whiteside has a great chance to rebound, and bounce-back early in his sophomore season.

Arcega-Whiteside flashed brilliance last season during last year’s preseason, when he posted eight receptions, 104 receiving yards, and a touchdown against the Baltimore Ravens, which left fans very excited. Early on in the regular season JJAW dealt with some nagging injuries which ultimately left him behind the curve.

Once he actually got on the field due to injuries to Desean Jackson and Alshon Jeffrey, Arcega-Whiteside looked out of shape and had some crucial drops early on. Specifically the drop that cost the Philadelphia Eagles the game against the Detroit Lions in Week 3 of the regular season.

So why do I have so much faith in JJAW this season?

Arcega-Whiteside was drafted in the second round for a reason. Coming in at 6-2, 225 pounds Arcega-Whiteside was known as a huge red-zone threat in college during his time at Stanford University. This will finally come into play this season as Arcega-Whiteside will replace Jeffrey in the starting lineup for at least the first few weeks of the season. With the recent injury to Reagor and Jackson’s own injury history, Whiteside could see even more targets this season. With his size, he should end up becoming a touchdown machine.

This is a guy who I wouldn’t necessarily draft to begin the season with, but I would keep a close eye on him as the season progresses and he builds chemistry with Wentz. Wentz does love his big targets so I see no reason why Arcega-Whiteside couldn’t earn his trust. JJAW could definitely be a waiver wire acquisition that saves your season.
