Philadelphia Eagles: 4 potential midseason Alshon Jeffery trades

The Philadelphia Eagles could still be looking to offload Alshon Jeffery.

Despite all the hyping up the Philadelphia Eagles have done recently regarding Alshon Jeffery‘s status and eventual return, it would still be in the team’s best interest to trade him at some point this season. He’s experienced two serious injuries over the last three seasons, has publicly bashed the team’s franchise quarterback, and showed serious signs of regression in 2019 even prior to his recent injury.

With an influx of young wide receivers set to take over the reigns moving forward, there really is no place for Jeffery and his $15.4 million cap hit.

Initially acquired leading into the 2017 season, Jeffery was supposed to be Carson Wentz‘ number one option moving forward through his career. He had experienced a decent amount of success in Chicago despite below average QB play, and had all the athletic tools to thrive in Doug Pederson’s system.

The start to his Philly career kicked off with a bang, as he lived up to his WR1 expectations and Wentz was in the midst of an MVP season. Even after #11 went down due to an ACL injury, Jeffery stepped up and played even better with Nick Foles during the team’s Super Bowl run.

Despite all the chemistry that Wentz and Jeffery initially displayed, things quickly turned sour when Jeffery started leaking his frustrations regarding the young QB. The complaints quickly went viral, and then the veteran WR started getting bogged down with injuries left and right. It was rumored that the Philadelphia Eagles wanted to trade him as early as October of 2019, and are likely still interested in exploring that avenue considering the team’s salary cap situation moving forward.

If Jeffery can have one or two solid games when he returns to action this season, it might elevate his value just high enough to the point where a team would be willing to absorb his salary.
