The Philadelphia Eagles have brought in a FA offensive tackle for a visit.

According to ESPN’s Field Yates, the Philadelphia Eagles have brought in free agent offensive tackle Cordy Glenn for a visit. Glenn was the Bills starting LT from 2012 to 2017, before getting traded to the Cincinnati Bengals. After 18 games with Cincy, he was released this past offseason primarily due to injury concerns and some internal suspensions.

The Eagles offensive line issues have been well-documented as of late, as injuries to their starting group keep piling up left and right. Projected starting LT Andre Dillard is done for the season with a torn biceps, starting RG Brandon Brooks is likely done for the year as well with a torn achilles, and Lane Johnson hasn’t been to practice in almost two weeks now (he is expected to be ready for Week 1).

Following the Brooks injury, the Philadelphia Eagles opted to re-sign Jason Peters on a one-year deal to cover for him at RG. Following the Dillard injury, it was then widely expected that Peters would slide back to his natural position over at LT. However, Peters came out and said he wanted a pay raise if that were to happen, so Doug Pederson started experimenting with Matt Pryor at LT.

Needless to say, that proved to be a complete and utter disaster, and there’s just no way the Eagles could have signed off on that decision considering how important Carson Wentz’ health is to the organization. With just a handful of days left until their season opener against Washington, it looks like the Eagles are gunning for a last second improvement to their line.

Despite having some struggles with the Bengals the last two seasons, Glenn was a more than serviceable tackle during his time in Buffalo. He started 77 games with the Bills during his tenure there, and played well enough to warrant a $65 million extension in 2016. Glenn has plenty of experience playing the position, and immediately becomes an upgrade to the position over the likes of Pryor or even Jordan Mailata.

The Philadelphia Eagles have a few routes they could go with this move, as there is still time to pull the trigger on moving Peters back to left tackle. In that scenario, Pryor would take over as the team’s starting RG and Glenn would be the backup swing tackle.

The other main route is simply making Glenn the every down starting LT. He has the experience and is still just 30 years old, and should in theory do a serviceable job of protecting Wentz’ blindside. While it’s definitely not ideal having your starting LT heading into Week 1 being someone you just signed off the street, it’s better than the Eagles other internal options.

Glenn was a name who I highlighted in my “3 FA offensive linemen to keep an eye on” story from just around a week ago, so he definitely fits the mold of what I projected the team should seek out.

Next. Should the Philadelphia Eagles make a push to sign Adrian Peterson?. dark

Nothing is official yet, but at the very least the visit signals that the Philadelphia Eagles are in fact interested in adding to their o-line group, which should overall be viewed as a good thing.
