Ron Leary

There’s nobody who really jumps off the page when looking at the current free agent pool, but Ron Leary is likely the best overall talent still available. Leary is an eight year veteran, playing for both the Dallas Cowboys and the Denver Broncos throughout his career. The 31 year old lineman has experience playing both left and right guard, and has been a pretty solid starter at both positions.

Leary has missed 14 total games the last two seasons due to injury, which is the main reason he’s still available on the open market this late into the offseason. He had a tryout with the Cleveland Browns back on August 15th, but obviously he didn’t get a call back. For what it’s worth, this could definitely be viewed as a red flag.

The major “con” to adding Leary is the fact that he’s not exactly a “swing tackle”. The biggest concern the Eagles likely have at the moment is regarding Peters or Lane Johnson potentially suffering an injury. Leary has exclusively played guard during his career, so asking him to fill in at tackle might turn into a disaster.

Signing someone like Leary would likely only happen if the Eagles weren’t 100% comfortable with Pryor moving forward. Leary could easily slot in as the team’s starting RG should Pryor really struggle as an every down starter.
