Loser: Sidney Jones, CB

This one is pretty painful to write down, but it is 100% true. After three full years of failing to make an impact with the Philadelphia Eagles, former second-round pick Sidney Jones can’t even stay on the field long enough to make plays during training camp. His stock was already pretty low heading into this year’s camp, but him missing a handful of practices due to injury has likely plummeted it even further.

Jones had a few “splash plays” down the stretch for the Eagles last season, and a lot of fans felt this was going to be enough to insert himself back into the CB2 conversation. The team acquired Darius Slay and Nickell Robey-Coleman to hold down CB1 and slot duties in 2020, but there was still a pretty obvious hole at the second outside position.

Despite people calling for that ever talked about “Sidney Jones breakout season”, training camp started with Avonte Maddox firmly entrenched on the outside opposite of Slay. Jones was still getting opportunities to compete as a backup alongside Rasul Douglas, but his recent spring of injury-filled days might have taken him out of that conversation as well.

The Eagles just recently re-signed veteran CB Trevor Williams, after previously cutting him earlier this year. Bringing in a veteran corner this late into the offseason could easily spell trouble for a guy like Jones, as his poor training camp could end up costing him his spot on the roster altogether.
