Winner: Elijah Holyfield, RB

There was a lot of talk surrounding the Eagles running back room this offseason. While Miles Sanders is firmly entrenched as the RB1, and Boston Scott appears to be a rotational back with plenty of upside in the receiving game, many felt the team needed to add one more veteran to round out the room.

The Eagles did bring back former Super Bowl 52 hero Corey Clement, but even then, the desire for a fourth rotational back lingered on. It was reported that Howie Roseman at least contacted both Devonta Freeman and LeSean McCoy, so there was definitely some level of interest in adding one additional back.

However, a late signing during last year’s season, Elijah Holyfield is currently doing his best to prove that the Eagles have had their fourth running back all along.

A 5-10, 216lbs muscleman from the University of Georgia, most individuals had Holyfield pinned as your stereotypical “power back” in today’s NFL. Considering how much the Eagles have loved guys like LeGarrette Blount and Jordan Howard in the past, this type of role within the offense made a lot of sense.

However, where Holyfield has really impressed during training camp is in his ability to catch the ball. He’s been surprisingly active during the passing game, and this has to come as a welcome surprise to the Eagles coaching staff. With his new versatility fully on display, the second year RB is likely firmly entrenched at the RB4 position.
