The Philadelphia Eagles could cut these five players before Week 1.

Believe it not, the 2020 NFL season is just a few weeks away. The last few months have been a complete blur of space and time, but the new football season is genuinely right around the corner. With that in mind, the Philadelphia Eagles are going to have to start the tricky process of trimming down their game day roster.

The entire offseason has been a complete jumbled mess due to COVID-19, and that could lead to Howie Roseman and the Eagles being forced to make some tough decisions in the near future. A good chunk of the UDFAs and fringe roster players will be cut prior to the team’s opening game with Washington, but a handful of “surprise” players could find themselves on the chopping block as well.

A third-round pick for the Eagles back in 2017, cornerback Rasul Douglas has failed for years to successfully leave an impression on defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz.Despite displaying some fairly impressive ball skills, his overall poor footwork and lack of vertical speed has left him on the receiving end of some pretty bad beats.

Douglas spent the majority of the offseason working with renowned footwork trainer Rischad Whitfield, but even that might not earn him a spot in the Eagles DB room. The team went out and landed standout corners Darius Slay and Nickell Robey-Coleman this summer, and both are expected to be lockdown starters in 2020.

Avonte Maddox has essentially earned the CB2 job, and Cre’Von LeBlanc and Sidney Jones project to be the main backups. Throw in the fact that Douglas is entering the final year of his rookie contract, and it may just be time for the Eagles to move on.
