Alec Bohm has already made his presence felt for the Philadelphia Phillies.

When the news broke on Thursday that the Philadelphia Phillies had called up their top hitting prospect Alec Bohm to the show, a sense of relief was felt around the Delaware Valley. The third overall pick from the 2018 MLB Draft has had the Phillies fans anxiously awaiting his arrival for what has felt like an eternity.

The club’s slow start only fueled the desire of fans to see this kid make his way to the bigs. He did not disappoint. In his first big league at-bat, Bohm smashed a double down the left-field line.

As multiple bats in the Phillies lineup continue to sputter, getting a fresh face, and a guy who is projected to produce is a huge boon to this ball club. Rhys Hoskins, Scott Kingery, Jean Segura, and Andrew McCutchen have all suffered through varying degrees of a slow start, which has really put a limit on what this team is able to do. To be fair, Segura had a couple of big hits this weekend, and McCutchen went deep in Sunday’s win as well. Regardless, a jolt was needed in the lineup.

Through his first 4 games at the major league level, the third basemen has gone 4-14 with two doubles, a pair of RBI’s while also scoring two runs.

At 24 years old, Bohm already has the feel of a veteran hitter. He just looks like a hitter in the box, and seems to have the kind of approach you need to be successful in the Major Leagues.

Since the Philadelphia Phillies drafted him out of Wichita State, all the big right-hander has done is hit the baseball. Across 165 Minor League games, Bohm slashed .293/.368/.842 with 21 home runs and 97 runs batted in. He also roped 36 doubles and chipped in an additional six triples. Basically, this guy has been counted on as a middle of the order bat everywhere he has been.

It has been well documented that the biggest hole in Bohm’s game is his defense at third base. So far, it has been a bit of a mixed bag with some good and some bad, but ultimately he has been serviceable at third base. Of course, this is an incredibly small sample size and only time will tell if he will be able to actually stick at third base.

With Hoskins’ future possibly in question if things do not pick up for him, it is entirely possible Bohm will eventually slide over to play first base. There is even the possibility where he might see regular reps at designated hitter down the road, assuming that becomes a full-time thing in the National League.

The bottom line is since Alec Bohm arrived, the Philadelphia Phillies have gone 3-1, including a huge three-game sweep over the division rival New York Mets. His impact has certainly been felt so far. Let’s hope this is just the beginning of a long and successful career in red pinstripes.
