Is Spencer Howard about to make his Philadelphia Phillies debut?
After what feels like years of anticipation, it finally appears Spencer Howard’s arrival to Philadelphia may be imminent.
With the Phils-Yanks game being postponed on Tuesday, it sets the Philadelphia Phillies up with 11 straight games in the City of Brotherly Love, including a doubleheader on Wednesday with the Yankees where Zack Wheeler and Aaron Nola are both set to take the mound.
This puts the Phils’ in a bit of a weird spot, as they will need to add another starting pitcher to be able to keep their rotation on schedule.

Enter: Spencer Howard.
The hard-throwing right-hander has been a guy Phillies fans have been dying to see in red pinstripes, and for good reason. With a fastball that routinely sits in the high 90’s and an arsenal that includes multiple “out” pitches, it is easy to envision this guy anchoring himself towards the top of the rotation for years to come.
This, of course, doesn’t even take into account how bad the Phillies pitching situation currently is. With basically a collection of arms behind Nola and Wheeler, the Phils could use a guy like Howard to come in and give them stability behind their two horses.
The way the schedule falls, it appears the best time for Howard to debut may be Sunday against the Braves. Of course, this is all speculation and the Phillies could instead just dip into their atrocious bullpen and have someone like Cole Irvin or Nick Pivetta make a spot start. Quite honestly, with the way the Phillies have handled their pitching dilemma, would that really surprise anybody?
With that said, the logical move would be to bring Spencer Howard into the fold and give him the chance to establish himself as a big-league arm. Let’s just hope the Philadelphia Phillies’ front office feels the same way.
