After passing on him in 2019, would the Philadelphia Eagles even consider Josh Gordon currently?

Easily the least likely addition of the three, veteran wide receiver Josh Gordon is still technically on the open market (given he gets reinstated).

A move for Gordon seems all but impossible, considering the fact that the Eagles actually passed on him last year via the waiver wire, despite experiencing crippling injuries to their WR room. However, when it comes to Howie Roseman and last second free agency additions, you can never say never.

Gordon was an absolute force early on in his career, recording one of the craziest single seasons we’ve seen from a WR in recent years. During the 2013 season, Gordon led the entire NFL with 1,646 receiving yards. What made this even more impressive was the fact that the Cleveland Browns’ three starting quarterbacks that year were Jason Campbell, Brandon Weeden, and Brian Hoyer.

Not exactly an elite list of passers right there.

However, since his dominant 2013 season, Gordon’s football playing career has been a bit of a disaster. He’s been suspended a handful of times due to drug-related incidents, and even checked himself into rehab at one point. He’s been reinstated and re-suspended more times than I can count, and has even unofficially retired a few times.

Gordon last played for the NFL in 2019 with the Seattle Seahawks, before seeing his season cut short once again due to a drug related suspension. At this point in time, it seems hard to even make an argument for taking a chance on him.

However, due to the NFL relaxing some of their drug related policies, it’s looking like Gordon will once again be reinstated into the league. He’s already reportedly had some preliminary talks with the Seahawks about returning, and rumors surfaced a few weeks ago that the Washington *Football Team* was also interested.

Gordon is a gigantic “question mark” at this point in his career. When he’s healthy and mentally locked in, it’s hard to make a case for him not being better than a guy like Quez Watkins or Greg Ward. However, his failure to stay off drugs has led to him being more of a headache than he’s actually worth.

Like previously mentioned, Roseman and the Eagles passed on Gordon once last year so it’s quite unlikely they’ve changed their mind just a few months later (especially considering Gordon got suspended again following that decision). However, his talent alone does make him worth mentioning on a list like this.

Overall, it’s entirely possible that the Eagles opt to add no one to their training camp roster. They drafted guys like Watkins and John Hightower for a reason, and Greg Ward looked genuinely impressive down the stretch last year. If the Eagles feel comfortable in the depth they have, then all the power to them.
