Adam Haseley was the lone bright spot for the Philadelphia Phillies during Sunday’s rubber match loss.

Clearly in an attempt to top the disappointment fans felt after the team’s Opening Day loss, the Philadelphia Phillies found a way to lose to the Marlins by a score of 11-6 on Sunday afternoon. Starting pitcher Vince Velasquez lasted just three innings, the bullpen allowed seven runs, and the Philly offense left the bases loaded on three separate occasions.

However, there was at least one bright spot we were all able to take away from the outing, second year outfielder Adam Haseley looked seriously good in his 2020 debut.

Haseley began his MLB career last season, earning the call-up roughly halfway through the season. He initially experienced some early injury concerns, before settling into a utility role in the outfield. Across 67 games in 2019, Haseley recorded 26 RBIs, 5 HRs, 14 doubles, and a batting average of .266.

Haseley also flashed some borderline elite ability in the outfield. He finished the season worth 13 defensive runs saved above average, and routinely showcased potential as a future Gold Glove candidate.

Joe Girardi went with the speedster Roman Quinn in center field for his first two games as Phillies manager, however opted to give Haseley the start in the team’s first rubber match. Quite simply, the second year outfielder did not disappoint.

Haseley went 4-6 on the day, recording two doubles, an RBI, and scored two runs. One of his scored runs came on an error, showcasing his base-running IQ. Haseley also made two quite spectacular catches out in center field, one coming at the wall as he was backpedaling, and the other coming via a sliding grab deep into the gap between center and right.

Next. Philadelphia Phillies: Game postponed due to COVID-19 concerns. dark

Outside of a Bryce Harper bomb and a few nice hits by Jay Bruce, there wasn’t a whole lot to feel happy about following a series loss to the Marlins of all teams. Throw in the fact that a handful of Phils games might be getting postponed, it’s hard to feel too optimistic at the moment At least we all have an emerging Haseley to look forward to out in center field.
