Is Philadelphia 76ers forward Tobias Harris at risk of losing his best friend?
The relationship between Tobias Harris and Boban Marjanovic was one of the more special high points of the Philadelphia 76ers‘ 2018-19 season.
The duo, who initially became acquainted as members of the Detroit Pistons, and then survived two trades to two different teams, came to the City of Brotherly Love as part of Elton Brand’s late night/early morning trade deadline eve blockbuster with the LA Clippers and instantly came to personify what our fair city is supposed to represent.
They had fun interactions on social media, goofed around whenever on camera for pre/post-game availabilities, and even appeared together at the Premier for John Wick 3 – a film featuring a very underrated cameo from Marjannovic in an early scene.

Technically that seldom happened, as Marjanovic and Harris only played 226 minutes together in Brett Brown’s offense – the 57th most used pairing on the team – but boy howdy were those 226 minutes fun to watch.
However, on one fateful day in June, that all changed.
Marjanovic, after failing to receive a substantive offer from the Sixers front office, signed a two-year, $7 million deal with the Dallas Mavericks and after some heartfelt goodbyes that still resonate to this day, the duo ultimately went their separate ways. Sure, they still interact when available, and even had a social distanced hang out session in the NBA Bubble but for the most part, the duo have had to put their best friendship on hold until the season comes to an end and life (eventually) returns to normal.
But when Harris is away, with whom will Marjanovic play? Has the supersized Serbian center found a new best friend?
You see, with Harris no longer around every day to hang out with, Marjanovic is getting awfully friendly with Mavericks guard Luka Doncic, both on and off the court. While the duo having a decent pre-existing connection shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise, as the duo actually faced off in Eurobasket before Doncic made the jump to the NBA, their recent interactions are anything but. Since making the jump from Eagles Country to Big D, Doncic and Marjanovic have routinely been photographed drivin’ trucks, playin’ golf, and even engaging in some weird, mini tennis game that I frankly don’t understand.
Is Marjanovic just that fun? Does Doncic have Harris’ blessing?
Bobi and Luki? *shivers* that sounds downright terrible to this Philadelphia 76ers fan *insert throwup emoji here*.
Now to be fair, a quick trip to Tobias Harris and/or Boban Marjanovic’s individual Instagram accounts will show that the duo’s relationship is as strong as ever. They still routinely share pictures together and frequently like and comment on each other’s pictures. Just because Bobi has a new friend doesn’t mean he can’t still be Tobi’s friend, right? You can have more than one. And hey, if anything, maybe Marjanovic should check in on Harris’ friendship with rookie documentarian Matisse Thybulle… just saying.
