Three free agents the Philadelphia Eagles could still sign

The Philadelphia Eagles might not be done adding in free agency.

With the addition of Jason Peters taking place earlier this week and training camp closing in, it’s starting to look like the Philadelphia Eagles are settling in on a final roster. With the organization currently expected to be $50+ million dollars over the cap in 2021, it makes sense that Howie Roseman would prefer rolling over as much money as possible, as opposed to handing out more free agent contracts.

However, Roseman and the Eagles have been known to time their signings well, and if a favorable offer pops up this late in the offseason, they’ll likely jump on it. There’s still a few glaring holes when looking at the roster, and a few candidates who would fill them nicely are available to be signed.

Everson Griffen remains an enticing option at defensive end.

I wrote about former Minnesota Vikings’ defensive end Everson Griffen earlier in the week, after he teased a potential partnership with Philly. Roseman and the Eagles have long prioritized the trenches, and Griffen would be an obvious upgrade to their pass rush.

More from Section 215

Considering the Eagles are likely out on Jadeveon Clowney and Yannick Ngakoue at this point in time due to financial constraints, Griffen would be the next best thing. The veteran edger rusher recorded eight sacks last year, as well as 11 TFLs and 24 quarterback hits.

Whether he’s a starter alongside Brandon Graham or used as a more situational pass rusher (see Chris Long in 2017 and 2018), he would be a huge upgrade to the Philadelphia Eagles’ defense.

While the team is definitely strapped for cash at the moment, if Griffen agrees to play on a bit of a smaller deal, it would be a no-brainer for Roseman to pull the trigger on.
