Philadelphia Eagles: K’Von Wallace is already a must follow on Twitter
Mere hours after officially joining the Philadelphia Eagles, K’Von Wallace has already emerged as an all-time great Philly Twitter follow.
When the Philadelphia Eagles officially selected K’Von Wallace as a do-it-all slot cornerback/safety, the move was met with near-universal approval.
Was he everyone’s first choice as the team’s first defensive back off the board? No, I imagine most fans wanted the Birds to pick a cornerback who could at least compete for a spot on the outside, but after like four hours, everything has changed.
But no matter what you initially thought of the Clemson Tigers‘ product when he went off the board, it’s safe to say he’s ingrained himself into the hearts of Philly fans like few players before him.
Why? Because Wallace is bleeding green all over his various social media timelines.
From welcoming his fellow draft picks to the team on Instagram, to a rolling stream of consciousness about how excited he was to join the Eagles, Wallace went wild on the digital world filled to the brim with the sort of boundless excitement reserved for a lifetime’s worth of hard work paying off – or me when the Eagles drafted my favorite player, Jalen Reagor.
Wallace even reached out to his new teammate Will Parks, encouraging the duo – and presumably the rest of the defensive backfield – to go crazy.

Why is this noteworthy? Because Wallace and Parks literally play the same position and could conceivably be competing for the same snaps later this year.
I don’t know about you, but that just screams leadership to me – which is good, because the Eagles have an underrated need for a new defensive leader on the defensive side of the ball.
Now to be fair, I’m not comparing Wallace to Jenkins on the field. While the duo does share some similar traits in that they are both capable of playing multiple positions across the field, Wallace projects more as a down and down slot cornerback than a box safety capable of covering 6-foot-7 tight ends and speedy wide receivers out of the backfield.
Would it be a bit unusual for a slot cornerback to be the leader of a defense? Maybe so, but when you see Wallace interact with his teammates, it’s hard not to want to rally around the 22-year-old.
While on-field leadership may not show up on the box score, it is essential in the modern-day NFL, essential for a defense like Jim Schwartz‘s that requires players to stick with their man in one-on-one coverage. If Wallace can fill that aspect of Jenkins’ game early in his career, it will go a long way to keeping the Eagles’ defense potent for years to come.
Will K’Von Wallace even see the defensive side of the ball as a rookie? It may be tough due to the sheer number of slot cornerbacks and safeties the Philadelphia Eagles chose to employ this offseason, but it’s safe to say he’ll be among the more popular players in the locker room – and on Twitter – in no time. For a defense looking for a new identity, finding a charismatic leader in the fourth round is fantastic value.
