With the season on the line and an ever-mounting string of injuries piling up, Boston Scott saved the Philadelphia Eagles’ season against the New York Giants.

How many times did we hear that phrase over the last four months? A dozen? A hundred? More?
Well, in a lot of ways, those detractors are right.

But by defeating the New York Giants in a commanding fashion, the Philadelphia Eagles are now locked into the fourth seed in the NFC East, despite having nine wins and a worse record than the teams that will finish fifth and sixth.
Could the eagles lose by a 100 to the Seattle Seahawks or the San Francisco 49ers on their home turf? Sure, but as the Royal They so often say, you have to win to get in, and everyone has a clean slate in the playoffs.
But without Boston Scott, we might not be talking playoffs at all.
You see, despite losing player after player including potential rookie of the year Miles Sanders, not one but two Pro Bowl offensive linemen, effectively the right side of the line, a 5-foot-6, 203-pound muscle hamster out of Louisiana kept the offense ticking like a well-tuned heartbeat.
And his prize for resilience in the face over ever-mounting odds? Three touchdowns, 142 all-purpose yards, and a ticket to the postseason.
Not to toot our own horn or anything, but here at Section 215, we’re kind of the Elon Musk of Boston Scott – early adopters whose initial investment has paid off time and time again. We’ve called him the next Darren Sproles, and the Eagles’ best return option, but even we couldn’t have predicted this.
I mean seriously, what are the chances any player goes from a practice squad member to an instant cult hero in 10 weeks?
Scott is in rarefied air.
What a game, what a game. How often does one player finish out a game as both a team’s leading receiver and leading rusher? Christian McCaffrey maybe, but Scott was selected 193 spots later in the following draft, was released as a rookie after his first training camp, and didn’t even get a scholarship coming out of high school – he’s just different.
In a lot of ways, Scott perfectly exemplifies what it means to be ‘Philly Tuff’, and after an incredibly up and down season, to win big on the back of an underdog means a little bit more than if the Birds would have coasted to a top seed at full strength.
I mean seriously, how often does a practice squad elevation initially drafted in the sixth round get used as a front-testing decoy split out wide? Scott may be the most respected – and feared – offensive playmaker on this team.

Make no mistake, Miles Sanders is the future of the Philadelphia Eagles’ running back corp; he’s shifty, a solid receiver, and a potential Rookie of the Year candidate. But Boston Scott has earned a spot on this team for years to come, a thought that seemed far from probable when he was waived in the final trim down to 53 back in August – about as probable, I imagine, as Scott saving the Eagles’ season as their do-it-all offensive tour de force.
