The Philadelphia Eagles are getting Jordan Howard back. This addition can help the team even more.

The Philadelphia Eagles under Andy Reid, Doug Pederson, and even Chip Kelly were known for their pass attack. You still have to have balance even though the pass has become the main focus for teams.

The shotgun and spread offenses have dominated the NFL. There is more of a desire to put points up on the board then controlling the time of possession.

The teams that are able to run the ball force defenses to respect both aspects of the offensive game. The Eagles have had some great running backs don their jersey in the past years.

More from Philadelphia Eagles

Some of the old Eagles greats at running back that have done great things for the team are Duce Staley, Darren Sproles, Brian Westbrook, and LeSean McCoy. With these players, the Eagles have been able to win plenty of games and even go to a Super Bowl.

It is proven that when this franchise is able to have great run performances, they are able to win games. In the 2005 NFC championship game that helped the Eagles go to the Super Bowl, they ran for 156 yards and a touchdown.

In the Super Bowl game against the Patriots two weeks later, they only ran for 45 yards and no touchdowns. They ended up losing that game.

In the Super Bowl win almost two years ago against the Patriots, they ran for 164 yards and a touchdown. They ended up winning that game, which was their first Super Bowl ever.

That season they made an in-season trade for running back Jay Ajayi that elevated them to the big game.

During the offseason, the Eagles knew they needed to revamp the running game, so they traded for Jordan Howard and drafted Miles Sanders. Both players have done well for the team so far. Howard has 525 yards rushing and six touchdowns. Sanders has 766 rushing yards with three touchdowns.

The rookie also has 510 receiving yards with three touchdowns.

The Eagles are 12th in rushing yards per game with 121.2. They are also 12th in total rushing yards with 1,818.

The only problem with Howard is the fact that he has been injured since week 9. The Eagles have felt the effects of him being gone. They are 3-3, including a head-scratcher against the Miami Dolphins while he has been out.

Howard does a lot of things for the Eagles. His ability to run between the tackles helps gain chunks of yardage on the ground that opens up things in the passing game.

In short-yardage situations, he helps move the chains. In goal line situations, he helps convert four touchdowns.

The Eagles are without their three starting wide receivers to start the season. With firepower lost in the passing game, they will need Howard in the lineup so the run can open up a lackluster passing attack.

Next. Jay Ajayi just can’t catch a break. dark

The Eagles running game has been a bright spot for the team with all the injuries that they have been having on both sides of the ball. Now with Howard added to the mix, the Eagles have one more weapon that can do damage in their quest to make it to the playoffs.
