With the Dallas Cowboys all tied up at 6-6 after an ugly Thanksgiving loss to the Buffalo Bills, the NFC East title is now firmly in the Philadelphia Eagles’ court.

Win, lose, or draw, the Dallas Cowboys‘ Thanksgiving Day matchup against the Buffalo Bills was virtually guaranteed to help the Philadelphia Eagles moving forward.

A team in crisis, if the Cowboys lost bad, it could quite literally mean the end of their season, as Jason Garrett may be out of a job before the calendar flips to December, and even if they won, it’s not like Dallas will even win with their current configuration,  so prolonging a coaching change is no harm no foul.

But in a wonderful twist of fate, Eagles fans were gifted the best of both worlds.

More from Philadelphia Eagles

You see, not only did the Cowboys play bad – they did by the way, far worse than the final score would suggest – they did so on natural television in front of 5, 10 million people?

Not a good look.

According to The Spun, loud screaming was even heard coming from the team’s locker room, a sign that, well, the locker room is lost.

And why wouldn’t they?

Sitting pretty at 6-5 with a full point on your hometown Eagles, the Cowboys could have pushed themselves much closer to securing the NFC East crown before their season kicks it into its final stretch – a final stretch that still features bouts against the Bears, Rams, and yes, the Eagles.

Barring a surprise collapse by the Birds against the Miami Dolphins, they too will soon be 6-6, with comparably easy contests against the Giants, Redskins, and Giants again still on the books.

But if the greek chorus of Twitter is of any indication, the Cowboys’ season is already over. Between laughter from Stephen A. Smith, gifs of Dak’s bizarre pregame dances (and inaccurate passes) and all five national trending topics associated with the team and their Week 13 loss, there really isn’t a whole lot to be thankful about from this year’s annual holiday contest.

That’s right, despite playing some truly horrible football over the last two weeks, the Eagles could still march into a Week 16 showdown with the Cowboys on their home turf with their destiny in their hands.

If the Philadelphia Eagles can find some – any – offense over the next three weeks, Doug Pederson‘s squad could improbably secure a third straight trip to the postseason, with at least one game on the books at the Linc.

The Dallas Cowboys, on the other hand, may have Kellen Moore coaching a team that’s all but quit on the season with very little desire for a late December slugfest – and it’s all thanks to this Thanksgiving Day miracle.
