Hey Philadelphia Eagles fans, wide receiver Dontrelle Inman just passed through waivers and is now an unrestricted free agent… just saying.

On Tuesday, November 26th, the Los Angeles Chargers waived Dontrelle Inman after completing a stint on injured reserve.

What does this have to do with the Philadelphia Eagles? Nothing, I just thought you’d like to know that Dontrelle Inman, an NFL wide receiver who signed with the New England Patriots before they landed N’Keal Harry and Antonio Brown over the summer, has cleared waivers and is now free to sign anywhere he’d like.

I think you know where I’m going here.

Now granted, I’m not suggesting that Inman is any sort of game-changer who can turn a middling passing offense into something elite, or that he’s even better than Jordan Matthews, the on-again, off-again Eagles receiver who was just waived after an ugly two-week showing (more on that here), I’m just saying it’s interesting that he’s become an unrestricted free agent at the same time the Birds have an open roster spot.

Will Cre’von LeBlanc eventually fill that spot? Most definitely he will fill a spot, but with 21 days before a decision must be made, it would be uncharacteristic for the Birds to go into Week 13 with 52 players on their active roster.

I mean, we’re talking about a team that has had (by my count) 68 players make appearances on their 53 man roster, clearly Howie Roseman and company like to keep their cupboards well stocked.

While we wait patiently for LeBlanc to get back to playing shape, it wouldn’t be the worst idea in the world to just, ya know, bring Inman in for a workout, right? I mean, he did catch 58 balls for 810 yards and four touchdowns as recently as 2016, that’s pretty cool, right?

If Bill Belichick handpicks a guy, clearly he has to have some potential.

Again, Inman isn’t going to transform an offense from zeros to heroes, or even replace DeSean Jackson as a dedicated deep threat, that player would be JJ Nelson (more on him here), but at least he can catch the ball – we all saw how that worked out for Greg Ward in Week 12.

Look, I’m not the first one to point out that the Eagles have a ton of problems across their roster, even if I’ve become numb to Doug Pederson‘s offensive inefficiencies, and signing any receiver off a practice squad and/or midseason free agency isn’t going to change the team’s ultimate fate, but at this point, why not try?

Why not try to add talent wherever possible in a fleeting attempt to remain relevant in an NFC East Conference that is still anyone’s game? A dozen or so extra catches could be the difference between a fourth seed and having to duke it out for a last-second wild-card spot.

Next. Brandon Brooks deserves nothing but respect. dark

Could Dontrelle Inman be that player for the Philadelphia Eagles? I don’t know, I’m not even suggesting the team sign him to a contract, I just find it interesting that he’s become an unrestricted free agent now, at this exact moment.
