Despite loss from Flyers, Morgan Frost displayed potential during NHL debut
The Philadelphia Flyers wound up losing to the Florida Panthers on Wednesday night, but Morgan Frost did show his potential impact moving forward.
The Philadelphia Flyers dropped their fourth-straight game Wednesday night against the Florida Panthers, losing 4-2.
One of the keys to the game was scoring early and often. Despite Travis Sanheim ripping an early goal past ex-Flyer Sergei Bobrovski, Philadelphia could not maintain the latter part of the keys to the game.
Carter Hart also got pulled in the second period, with Brian Elliot coming in for relief. Hart has been pulled a drastic three times in his 13 starts so far this season.
With the loss, the Flyers dropped to 10-7-4 on the season.
There happened to be one bright spot from this game, however, and that brightness happens to be cold, maybe even “frosty” one could say.
Morgan Frost made his NHL debut for the Flyers on Tuesday. It did not take long for him to make his impact for the professional team either, as he scored with 5:40 left in the second period.
Frost’s goal showed the patience, composure, and quick hands he has been praised for, as his nifty goal line moved allowed him to lift one over the shoulders of Bobrovski.
Frost played as if it was not his first game in the big leagues. His desire to play, work ethic, and hard work earned him more minutes than the likes of James VanRiemsdyk and Michael Raffl, and only a couple shifts less than Jakub Voracek.
He earned high praise from coach Alain Vigneault.
“He played a good game. There [were] a lot of good plays with the puck that he made for us,” Vigneault said afterward. “[He’s] a young player getting his first kick at the NHL. He’s obviously going to remember this game.”
Frost also stated that “it was a dream come true,” as the youngster performed well in front of his family in attendance as well, who flew in from Canada to catch his first game.
Frost’s Impact
The veterans in the orange and black are slacking this season. Voracek and JVR are almost nonexistent through a quarter of this season. When seeing newbie such as Frost or Farabee come up and make an immediate impact, one would think it would make them kick it into gear.
Frost’s spark and work ethic are going to need to serve as a wake up call for the older guys if the Flyers want to have success into the playoffs this season.
Frost should carve out a permanent role on the roster, even with Scott Laughton expected to return on Saturday.
Frost centered around Travis Konecny and Claude Giroux along with a line that clicked well all game for the Flyers will hopefully be a trend that continues, because Philadelphia could use all of the extra help possible moving forward.
