No.10: Cole Hamels

The 2008 World Series hero was impressive enough last decade, but his performance with the Phillies from 2010-15 is really where he started to build a potential case for the Baseball Hall of Fame someday.

He was an All-Star selection in back-to-back seasons (2011-12) and threw a complete game shutout in the playoffs in 2010, although that performance was completely overshadowed by another pitching feat from a few games before, which we’ll discuss later on in the list.

All told, Cole Hamels racked up 66 wins as a member of the Phillies in this decade, although that number is way lower than it should have been because the team was frequently awful. Look no further than 2014, when Hamels posted a career-best 2.46 ERA, but only went 9-9 for a last-place club.

Hamels also recorded nearly 1,000 strikeouts for the Phillies this decade before he was traded. But of course, he did cap off his Phillies career (for now) in spectacular fashion by hurling a no-hitter at Wrigley Field on July 25, 2015 in his final start with the team.

In my estimation, Hamels could very well end up being the only member of the Phillies’ 2008 championship club to end up in Cooperstown.
