4. Joe Maddon

One can only imagine how difficult it was for the Chicago Cubs to move on from Joe Maddon when taking into consideration his role in helping the team put an end to their World Series drought in 2016.

Despite the difficult decision, the Cubs and their fans will be forever grateful for what Maddon accomplished from 2015-19.

And while Maddon’s age (turning 66 in February) will certainly draw some concern if the Phillies were interested, the most important factor is Philadelphia’s current roster, and how they could arguably be built for a World Series run.

Back in the offseason when the Phillies were willing to invest all that money in Harper, the team made it clear they were going all-in on a run at the World Series.

Philadelphia obviously came up short of this goal in 2019, but with a few key changes over the next couple of months, an experienced manager like Maddon with a World Series title to his resume could work wonders.

Rightfully so, Maddon’s name has been linked to a few other teams searching for a new manager as well, but also keep in mind that he was born in West Hazleton, Pennsylvania, which could work to the advantage of the Phillies.
