5. Lions

Before any Eagles fans over the idea of the Detroit Lions being a threat to Philadelphia in the NFC, keep in mind this is the last approach the team can afford to take.

One week after suffering an embarrassing tie to the Arizona Cardinals, the Lions bounced back strong with a big win at home over the Los Angeles Chargers.

Numbers wise, this may not have been the most impressive game in the world for Detroit, but holding on for the hard-fought win over Los Angeles made a statement in regards to being a sleeper contender in the NFC.

To say Matt Patricia‘s first year as head coach with the Lions turned out to be a complete disappointment would be a huge understatement, but also this can be used as a learning experience moving forward.

With a year of head coaching officially under his belt, all eyes will be on Patricia moving forward to see if Detroit does in fact have what it takes to compete for one of the playoff spots within the conference.

A win on the road in Philadelphia would certainly make another strong case for Detroit, but for the sake of the Eagles, here’s to hoping they’re prepared enough to prevent this from happening.
