4. Chance to battle with Nationals in NL East

First off, Harper will forever appreciate everything the Nationals have done so far in his career, especially if he ends up returning to the team after all of this.

However, one of the benefits of joining a team like Philadelphia would mean Harper gets to remain in the NL East, and have Washington become one of his new rivals, which is always fun for any player.

Rivalries tend to bring out the best in players sometimes, and this happens in sports more than fans realize when it comes to a popular player pulling off the unthinkable by joining another team within the division.

For months, the Nationals have been aware of the possibility about the Phillies snagging Harper away from them, and if this were to end up happening, it would only take the rivalry to a whole new level for years to come.

This may not seem like a popular reason for Harper when it comes to wanting to join Philadelphia, but also there’s always the possibility of the outfielder feeling offended by Washington, whether it happens to be from a low contract offer or simply something else.

Even if Harper would still face the Nationals at some point if he were to join a team like the Dodgers, none of the teams in the running could offer him the chance to face Washington each season as much as the Phillies can.
