6. Nick Markakis

Would it be worth it for the Phillies to go after a veteran like Nick Markakis when looking at some of the other options available? While the argument can be made there are plenty of other strong candidates to choose from, it’s tough to ignore how valuable Markakis has been for the Atlanta Braves over the last couple of years, and could certainly make an impact for some of the younger guys on the Phillies.

Even more impressive, Markakis has established a reputation over the years for his defensive skills, making him an even more attractive option for a team like Philadelphia.

Someone like Markakis may not be on the top of the free agency list for a team like the Phillies when looking at some of the other candidates they will be pushing for, but as mentioned before, this could come down to what happens with other potential targets.

By playing in 162 games last season for the Braves along with playing a key role in helping the team win the NL East title, Markakis has made it clear he still has plenty of gas left in the old tank, and seems like he would be a good fit on a team in need of veteran leadership like the Phillies.
