16. Washington Redskins

I know fans in our nation’s capital are not going to be too happy to hear this, but the Washington Redskins have officially fallen back to earth, and maybe off the face of it.

After flying out of the gates with a 6-3 record, riding a throwback style of hard nose, power football behind the ageless wonder Adrian Peterson, Washington’s hopes of making a postseason berth have all but ended after their starting quarterback, Alex Smith, suffered a gruesome leg injury in the team’s Week 11 loss to the Houston Texans.

With Smith, the Redskins had a chance, but with Colt McCoy under center, and he will be under center for a good bit of any given game, a winning record appears a long shot at best.

Now granted, could the team still turn things around if McCoy can find a way to recapture his Texas Longhorns magic? Sure, I mean, the Redskins’ don’t exactly ask their quarterback to do much more than manage the clock, but if his underwhelming performance against the Dallas Cowboys is of any indication, the former Longhorns letterman appears to be the textbook definition of a backup quarterback.

Unfortunately, the Redskins are fool’s gold, with their proverbial arrow pointing firmly downward towards NFL irrelevance once more.
