The Philadelphia Eagles held on for the season sweep of the New York Giants in Week 12 to keep their hopes alive in the NFC East.

After two tough losses in a row to the Dallas Cowboys and New Orleans Saints, the Philadelphia Eagles found themselves in a situation of desperation entering Sunday’s game against the New York Giants.

When seeing how things are shaping out in the NFC East with the Cowboys and Washington Redskins, the Eagles knew a third loss in a row would most likely mean the defending champions wouldn’t be able to win the division.

Even if the argument could be made that Philadelphia still deserved to be part of the conversation with five games to go, when seeing what the team would have to overcome just to finish on top of the division seemed nearly impossible.

It wasn’t all smooth sailing at first, but luckily the Eagles figured out a way to get their act together when it mattered the most during Sunday’s 25-22 win over the Giants to keep the race in the NFC East a little more tighter.

With the win, Philadelphia only trails Dallas and Washington by a single game in the division standings, which means Week 13 just became a lot more interesting for all parties. While the Eagles will face the Redskins on Monday Night Football in front of a fired up crowd at Lincoln Financial Field, the Cowboys face one of their toughest challenges to date by taking on the New Orleans Saints on Thursday.

In other words, thank goodness Philadelphia was able to turn things around when it mattered the most in the second half against New York since one can only imagine the frustration if the team failed to take advantage of another game they should have been able to win.

Rightfully so, the Eagles still have plenty of areas in need of improvement before that Monday contest against the Redskins arrives, but also it was good to see the team show some fight against the Giants to make it clear they’re not ready to give up.

Whether it was Josh Adams (84 rushing yards and a touchdown on 22 carries) stepping up in the ground game or the defense coming up big by only allowing three points in the second half, Philadelphia also has plenty to be proud of from their win over New York.

Some believe the NFC East is the weakest division in all of football, but for the sake of the Eagles, this doesn’t really matter to them since all they care about is making the playoffs so the team can work from there.
